ABOUT ME

Shelby Alexandra Marcee is a dynamic and dedicated actor currently honing her craft as an MFA 3 Acting student at CalArts, graduating this Spring. Her foundation is built upon a strong BFA in Theatre and Music from Spelman College, equipping her with a diverse skill set in both classical and contemporary performance.

 

Her acting credits showcase her versatility, ranging from iconic roles like Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz and the vulnerable Eurydice in Eurydice, to powerful characters like Margaret Alexander in The Amen Corner. Other performances include; Oliver (Nancy), Xtigone (Tea Flake), Romeo & Juliet (Lady Capulet), Hamlet (Horatio & Laertes), The Amen Corner (Margaret Alexander), The Overcoat (Ms. Madilyn), and Morountodun (Moremi). Shelby approaches each role with a passionate commitment to authenticity, striving to bring depth and nuance to every performance.

 

Beyond acting, Shelby demonstrates a strong creative vision and leadership through her work in directing and producing. For the past two years, she has self-produced and directed her own Musical Theatre Cabaret, a collaborative project that weaves together songs, scenes, and pieces from various musicals around a central theme. This hour-long performance aims to curate a space where artists of all disciplines can come together to create something fun and unique, reflecting her belief in the power of musical theatre to unite multiple art forms. Her recent experience as Assistant Director on CalArts' Love's Labour's Lost further emphasizes her dedication to all facets of theatre production. This multi-faceted approach reflects her understanding of the collaborative nature of storytelling and her desire to contribute to the creative process from multiple perspectives.

 

Shelby's artistic expression is significantly enriched by her extensive vocal experience. With over ten years of professional singing, she brings a seasoned musicality to her performances. Her expertise extends beyond performance, as she has also served as a vocal teacher for K-8 students, demonstrating her ability to impart her knowledge and passion to others. Driven by a passion for impactful storytelling, Shelby is eager to collaborate on projects that challenge and inspire. She aims to create work that resonates deeply with audiences, utilizing her diverse skills to explore the complexities of the human experience.
